Abatement Liens
Abatement liens are filed when a property owner fails to maintain their property according to the Wichita Falls Code of Ordinances. This includes failure to demolish hazardous structures, securing of a structure, mowing and other miscellaneous work required for compliance with the ordinances. If a property owner has failed to comply with the notices sent or posted by Code Enforcement within the specified time frame, a contractor or the City Parks Department may be hired to abate the violation. |
| The Code Enforcement Lien Department sends an invoice that includes all costs in addition to an administrative fee set by ordinance. If after 30 days that invoice has not been paid, a lien is filed at the Wichita County Clerk's Office, which includes an additional $16.00 filing fee. This lien then accrues 10% monthly interest until the principle amount is paid. |
