The Emergency 
Management Office and First Responders from City, County, State and Federal offices are on call 24 hours a day to respond to the challenges posed by manmade or natural disasters and events. Under Texas State law, Wichita Falls Mayor Lanham Lyne is the City’s Director of Emergency Management.

 

The Emergency Management Office works closely with other City Departments including Public Works, Police, Fire, and the Wichita Falls-Wichita County Health District to address the needs and safety of citizens.

The office also enjoys very close emergency response relationships with Sheppard Air Force Base, Wichita County, Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES), Salvation Army, American Red Cross, United Way of North Texas, North Texas Council of Governments (NORTEX), Food Bank and many other organizations at the City, County, State and Federal level.

The goal of the Emergency Management Office is to work proactively to  ensure the safety and preparedness of area citizen.

The purpose of the Emergency Management Office is to: 

  • Ensure hazards that threaten Wichita Falls are clearly identified.  
  • Improve upon local emergency related skills of local personnel.
  • Conduct exercises to test training and validate plans.
  • Increase public awareness of hazards and appropriate mitigation actions.
  • Identify and implement vulnerability and risk reduction measures.
